Professor Emeritus Dr. Tariq Mahmood is a distinguished radiologist and radiation oncologist who retired as a BPS-21 officer from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, Government of Sindh, in 2023. He continues to serve voluntarily as the Head of Radiation Oncology at JPMC.

Dr. Mahmood is a Board Member of the Patients’ Aid Foundation (PAF-JPMC) and previously served as a Board Member of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) from 2016 to 2024.

He played a pivotal role in the transformation of JPMC through a successful public-private partnership between the Patients’ Aid Foundation and the Government of Sindh. Under his leadership and guidance, JPMC expanded from a 1,100-bed facility to a 2,208-bed tertiary care hospital between 2011 and 2023, with an additional 1,300 beds under development for completion during 2023–2028.

Dr. Mahmood was instrumental in establishing free-of-cost cancer treatment services utilizing CyberKnife and Tomotherapy technologies at JPMC, creating what is believed to be the only facility in the world offering these advanced treatments entirely free of charge. Patients from 24 countries and 178 cities across Pakistan have benefited from these services.
